The role that the doctrine O'Brein proclaims to Winston in the passage is that of the one he portrays. The role that goes against the system and what everyone is accustom to. Winston was one to not bite his thoughts but knew how to stay in rank and bite his tongue. He might not have agreed with the style of living or Government ruling, but he stayed in tack. Winston was strong minded and did as he pleased he did things he was not suppose to done and felt emotions that were too complicated for Big Brothers likings. Winston was smart and knew how things worked and still went about going against and ending up with a fate that you never thought would take place.

Winston knew things that most people didn't know or would not let Big Brother take away the things that people once knew. Winston would remember family memories and and past events, he wanted to feel every emotion in it entirety. He did not want to lack in any area. When it came to sexually relations he believe that Big Brother would eventually make it to where as though you only became sexual to reproduce nothing more. Winston like the way it felt and didn't want to lose that feel or forget so we slept with anyone no matter who they were as long as he felt that emotion.

Winston would never out right disagree with the government, but in his mind he hated it all including Big brother. He was the opposite of everything about the government. He knew not to say a word because the things he put people through could easily become him. He worked for Big Brother as a party member where he rewrote history and kept things in order. Whatever the party said was right it became golden everyone was to believe it, if you were to disagree or seem to brilliant for the environment or would no longer exist. You could either be a rewrite on an unperson. Winston had seen it done before to a man who was a great success as a party member but he bad deeds could not be remembered so they renamed him. Winston knew when someone just wouldn't last, just would not fit in and not too long after they just vanished. Winston kept a low profile and tired to remain in secret in order to live.

Winston fell in love. Love was not a factor. Love was not acceptable. Finally they caught up to Winston. He was lock up and put to the test. I believe they wanted to save Winston. They tried to make him see the way things the way they were suppose to be and show him how things would be. The way Winston was was living was beyond wrong he would have to change willingly or not. I believe Winston mine as well be dead he is no longer himself and he agrees with the law and loves Big Brother. He didn't care for others anymore and truly became his worst nightmare. He would have been better off dead than someone he didn't believe in at one point.
